- Resumen
- As the National Museum of the Viceroyalty is housed in a former Jesuit college, it is important to explain and contextualize the order it came from. The purpose of these galleries is to show the Society of Jesus in a global sense, which is logical if you think of New Spain not as an isolated entity but as part of the first world monarchy in history: the Hispanic monarchy. However, this global dimension should not allow us to forget the strong local roots that Jesuits managed to put down in the different territories they settled in and which, in the specific case of New Spain, are also fundamental because they are interwoven with a series of devotions that shaped that way of being that O’Gorman rightly called “criollismo” (creole patriotism).
