- Resumen
- The Mesopotamian collection at the National Museum of World Cultures (MNCM) is not the fruit of a colonial past but the desire for integration that has characterized the INAH from its inception. Under the management of Beatriz Barba, an exchange agreement was signed with the University of Pennsylvania Museum in 1964 to obtain original pieces that illustrated the cultures of the ancient Middle East for the Mexican public. The collection was split in two on its arrival in Mexico. One part went to the Gallery of High Cultures, as it was then named, in the recently created MNCM, which was dedicated to exhibiting pieces from the first urban cultures in history (Mesopotamia, Egypt, China, and India). The other half was taken to the new National Museum of Anthropology, to be incorporated into the Introduction to Anthropology Gallery.
