Perhaps your schoolhouse or your church is built of brick. Perhaps you have a brick chimney or fireplace or sidewalk. You must find out how such bricks are made. The adobe bricks you see in the picture are not like them. These men know just how to make adobe bricks. They fisrt dig up the earth so it is soft. you can see the hole where they are working. They have poured water into this hole. Their feet and legs are bare. They mix the water and soft dirt together by stepping in it and treading it around. When the mud is just thick enough and very smooth, one man fills his box with it. The inside of this box is just the size and shape he wishes to make the bricks. We call it the mold fot the mud bricks. You can see he has just put a shovelful of mud into his mold. When both the parts of the mold are full and the mud is smooth he will dry them. In a few days he will turn them over. Then he will turn them on edge. After they are well dried they are ready for use. They have not cost much money. Copyright by The Keystone View Company".
