Al reverso dice: "TRAFFIC ON AVENIDA CINCO DE MAYO, MEXICO CITY" " One of widest of the business streets in Mexico City is the Avenida Cinco de Mayo. It is a short avenue but one the most impressive. Except that you hear Spanish all about you, you might just as well be on some busy street in one of the larger cities of the United States, for the Avenue is not typical of Mexico. It runs east and west connecting the old cathedral you see in the distance with the new National Theater just out of sight at our left one of the oldest buildings of Colonial days with one of the highest architectural achievements of modern Mexico. It shows the wondeful progress made in Mexico during the last few years. The indispensable traffic officer is found here the same as in other large cities throughout the world. His signals in Mexico mean the reverse of those in the United States for he stands here traffic is to come toward us. When in 1862 some of the city streets were renamed, this street, although unfinished, was called the Avenida Cinco de Mayo, meaning the Avenue Fifth of May, to commemorate the victory on that date of the Mexicans over the French in the city of Puebla. Here are located the railway, steamship, express and insurance offices. One af the finest buildings on the Avenue is the Edificio de los Ferrocarriles Nacionales, the general headquarters of the National Railways of Mexico. The Banco de mexico on our left is an imposing building. It has immense resources and reserves and acts in the capacity of financial agent for the Mexican Federal Treasury. This is the only bank of issue in Mexico, It controls, supervises and regulates the minting of gold, silver and fractional currency and funtions like the Federal Reserve Bank in the United States."
